Newly woven threads

Chronicles of the Norns

Updates, announcements and other corrections the ancient powers would rather not have to explain.

Hero Update

Helena Answers the Call

A new hunter has entered the weave. Helena Ironbraid joins Runes of Wyrd with a complete card collection, a ready-to-play starter deck and a new path built around Spiritbound transformations.

Helena can bind herself to the Wolf, Bear or Raven. Each Spirit Form carries its own health pool and fighting style, while the woman beneath the spirit keeps the scars, strengths and weaknesses that shaped her hunt.

Choose one spirit, accept its limits and learn when returning to human form is worth more than another heartbeat in the skin of a beast.

This update also brings several improvements woven during Helena’s development:

  • The current Chapter is now displayed and updates as soon as a new turn begins, opening new strategic interactions for Helena and future Heroes
  • Music volume controls are now available directly during a battle across desktop, mobile, portrait and landscape layouts
  • PvP opponents now indicate when they cannot grant another reward yet, including the time remaining before rewards become available again
  • Several card effects, properties and filters have been corrected or made more consistent
  • Minor visual issues have been corrected, including the temperature cursor after a Hero change in 3v3

Helena’s thread is now yours. Hunt boldly, but remember that every borrowed shape eventually asks to be returned.

3v3 Update

Three Heroes, Fewer Chains

The Norns have watched mortals attempt to assemble their teams of three Heroes. Some counted their potions once, then twice, then six times, before staring at their Collection as though it had presented them with a riddle worthy of Odin. It appears the human mind sometimes reaches its limits before an addition is even complete.

We have therefore simplified the threads. From now on, any valid 1v1 deck may join a 3v3 formation. The same Global cards may be used in all three decks without requiring you to own three times as many copies.

Choose three distinct decks, entrust them to three different Heroes, then fight. Even a mortal should be capable of remembering a rule this short.

Global cards now also follow the same laws as other cards of their rarity in the Market, in boosters and when recycled. Their versatility remains. The economic privilege you generously granted them without consulting us does not.

Build your teams freely. The threads belong to each deck, not to your entire army.

The Norns have simplified the loom. Try not to knot your fingers in it.

The Beta Begins

The Threads Are in Your Hands

Welcome, mortals. The gates of Runes of Wyrd are open, and the threads of fate finally rest in your hands. We have spent a considerable amount of time imagining them. For the tedious work, our slave labours beneath the roots of Yggdrasil, weaving, carving and repairing whatever we command. Food is occasionally provided. Some mortals use the term “dev”. We prefer the traditional term: slave.

Do not be afraid to experiment, build imperfect decks or lose battles. Defeat takes nothing from you, except perhaps a small piece of pride, and the Norns have never considered pride a particularly useful resource. Every battle reveals an interaction, a weakness or a strategy that may serve you later.

Try. Lose. Understand. Adapt. Victory belongs less to those who never fall than to those who eventually understand why they fell.

Time will separate the fortunate from the skilful, the stubborn from the wise, and the truly chosen from those who simply placed three Legendary cards in a deck and hoped for divine intervention.

Play, learn and follow your thread. We already know where it leads, but watching you discover it is considerably more entertaining.

The Norns are watching.

So is our slave, whenever the loom grants a few seconds of rest.

Welcome to the closed beta

To the mortals who dare enter

Welcome to Runes of Wyrd. We are the Norns. We watch the threads of fate, bind them, cut them and, on certain days, correct the mistakes left behind by developers. Even ancient powers must occasionally release a patch.

You are entering a world where every card can alter the course of a battle. Take time to observe the icons, read the effects and learn each mechanic gradually. Some Heroes are easy to understand. Others wield powers probably too complex for a mortal mind.

Prove us wrong.

As you fight and expand your Collection, you will discover new cards, new interactions and strategies that may eventually appear obvious. Do not become too proud when that happens. We already knew they would.

Runes of Wyrd is currently in closed beta. Balance may evolve, cards may be modified and a few threads of fate may still become tangled. Mortal feedback will help us improve the game, correct its weaknesses and prepare what comes next.

This chronicle will gather the most important updates to the game:

  • New features
  • Card changes
  • Balance adjustments
  • Issue fixes
  • Important revelations about the world and its history
  • Development announcements
  • Updates to the Berserker’s stew recipe, because the mead must always be poured before adding the three onions

Whenever a new message is published, an indicator will appear in the site header. Read it carefully. The Norns dislike repeating themselves.

For now, move forward. Learn. Fight.

Your fate is already in motion
